Accelerator Awards

ac·cel·er·a·tion (akˌseləˈrāSH(ə)n/) noun.

Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity and it occurs when an object changes its speed or direction or both

The Santa Barbara Foundation is committed to build and maintain philanthropic assets now and for future generations. In 2015, foundation trustees made a bold decision to invest more dollars in the community. The source of these funds comes from unrestricted bequests received by the foundation in the prior year. Fifty percent of all of these gifts will be placed in a designated fund to support transformative projects that significantly improve quality of life for Santa Barbara County residents. Accelerator Awards provide substantial financial resources for critical opportunities in solving community challenges, increasing the possibility for significant impact and results.

The Program for Effective Access to College (PEAC)
A school- and community-based strategy to help close the achievement gap and change the trajectory of underrepresented students. The program provides academic and social supports that guarantee students graduate from high school and are prepared for college. The grant will bring the project to scale throughout the Santa Barbara Unified School District by 2017.

Santa Barbara City College (SBCC) Promise Program
The Promise Program is committing to provide any local student that completes their secondary education within the Santa Barbara County College District with the opportunity to attend SBCC full time for two years free of charge. The grant from the Santa Barbara Foundation will join other philanthropic funding to cover all tuition, required fees, books and required supplies in an effort to remove economic barriers, making Santa Barbara City College fully accessible to all local students.

Application Process
The Accelerator Award application process is closed for 2016. All inquiries and proposals should be directed to the Santa Barbara Foundation’s Senior Directors of Community Investments, Sharyn Main or Phylene Wiggins.
