This report provides the most up-to-date and holistic picture of Santa Barbara County’s nonprofit sector. After a turbulent and unpredictable global pandemic that shook the sector, the data reveal key insights to guide funders, practitioners, and government agencies in collaborating toward reopening and rebuilding. Additionally, these data serve as an essential baseline for future research on the nonprofit sector in Santa Barbara County.
To understand the social sector’s landscape, health, and vitality, the Collaboration for Social Impact engaged researchers at The Nonprofit Institute at the University of San Diego and DataLake, LLC. Through this partnership, a survey of Santa Barbara County nonprofit leaders in the summer of 2021, followed by small group discussions at the Partnership for Excellence conference in October. These findings were combined with the most current data from IRS 990 filings and the Employment Development Department. This information helped to inform the final report, which is available for the public to view.
We thank all our nonprofit partners for taking the time to participate in the survey and contributing to the breakout sessions at the Partnership for Excellence.
