The Tri-Counties Blood Bank Fund provides grants and scholarships for activities that support blood and blood-related products and services.
The Tri-Counties Blood Bank (TCBB) mission is to provide a safe and adequate supply of blood components and related services to individuals, health care organizations and communities. In 1997, the Blood Bank was a nonprofit public benefit corporation that sold all of its assets to Haemonetics Corporation, a Massachusetts for-profit corporation. A year later, some of the remaining funds from that sale were transferred to the Santa Barbara Foundation to establish the Tri-Counties Blood Bank Fund. Approximately $200,000 is available each year.
Eligible 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations may apply for:
- Indigent Care grants to reimburse qualified hospitals for un-reimbursed costs directly related to providing blood or blood products to qualified patients within Santa Barbara County.
- Education grants to advance education in medical technology or nursing related to blood banking, physician education on techniques and development of transfusion medicine, or community education on blood and blood diseases.
