Culture & Recreation

Santa Barbara County is rich in organizations that provide meaningful experiences in art and culture. On most days, the majority of us can choose to attend a play or an art exhibit, visit a museum, hear live classical music, delve into history, or walk in a park. The Foundation devotes 25 percent of its grant budget to support cultural and recreational activities that:

  • Promote the creation and appreciation of and accessibility to a diverse mixture of arts and culture
  • Provide opportunities for leisure or sporting activities
  • The Foundation’s grantmaking in this area is funded through the income earned from donor unrestricted and field of interest endowment funds. These are permanent funds of the Santa Barbara Foundation and supply resources for grantmaking every year.
Unfortunately, those resources do not cover all the grant requests received. Nonprofit organizations applying for grants most often only receive a portion of the funds they requested.

In 2007, the Foundation awarded $726,782 to 39 organizations in the areas of Culture & Recreation. Click here to access list of grantees.

If you would like to support the Foundation in this area of grantmaking, you can help by:
  1. Giving directly to the charities listed above
  2. Giving an unrestricted gift to the Foundation for the support of Culture & Recreation
  3. Creating your own named fund (Donor Advised Fund) to support Culture & Recreation
