Social Venture Partners of Santa Barbara

History
The Social Venture Partners (SVP) model was created in 1997, in Seattle, Washington, the inspiration and vision of Paul Brainerd, founder and president of Aldus Corporation. He along with other charitable minded individuals had a vision of a philanthropic community that borrowed from venture capital practices and made highly engaged investments of money, resources and business expertise in local nonprofit organizations, with the aim of developing their capacity and sustainability.
  • There are 26 Social Venture Partner organizations and more than 1,900 Partners in the USA, Canada and Japan.
  • More than $26 million in grants has been awarded to more than 300 nonprofit organizations.
  • Countless hours of strategic volunteering have been contributed to nonprofits.

SVP of Santa Barbara
Social Venture Partners of Santa Barbara (SVP SB), sponsored by the Santa Barbara Foundation, seeks to create significant, long-term social change in Santa Barbara by achieving a dual mission:

  • Expanding the Capacity of Innovative Nonprofits by investing time, expertise, and money to collaboratively strengthen these organizations.
  • Expanding Philanthropy by educating individuals to be well informed, effective and engaged philanthropists.
Social Venture Partners of Santa Barbara is fortunate to have the interest and engagement of four experienced partners from Los Angeles, Phoenix, Seattle and Boston.

Partners join SVP SB because of:
  • The leverage the SVP model delivers.
  • Pooled resources that maximize contribution.
  • Working strategically rather than simply writing a check.
  • The opportunity to apply professional talents and skills.
  • Enjoyment and education from the network of like-minded, caring people.
