North County Nonprofit Forum: The Power of Storytelling

This forum will gather nonprofit leaders to explore how organizations can advance their missions through more powerful storytelling. The event kicks off with a keynote address “Change the Story, Change the World,” about nonprofit storytelling by Andy Goodman of the Goodman Center  in Los Angeles. Andy has revolutionized how nonprofits talk about their work to maximize the power of storytelling and better connect with clients, donors, and prospective volunteers. The forum will also include sessions to sharpen communications and outreach skills and a media panel that will explore how best to message your organization’s mission and needs. You will also be invited to engage in meaningful conversations with peers about your own best practices and the lessons your nonprofit has learned through your unique storytelling experience.

The North County Nonprofit Forum was created in 2016 by a group of foundations and nonprofits interested in building the capacity and strengthening networking among northern Santa Barbara County nonprofits and funders. The first forum was held in Santa Maria in October 2016. While the event was developed to meet the needs of organizations in northern Santa Barbara County, other nonprofits are welcome to participate.

FAQ

Who should attend? Nonprofit employees and Board members, including those who help communicate your organization’s mission and those who gather the stories that showcase your impact. Each organization can register up to four people.

What food will be served? There will be coffee and tea during registration, a mid-morning snack, and lunch included in the registration fee. Vegetarian option available.

What is the criteria for scholarships? Sponsorship support from our foundation partners covers most of the costs of this event, which allows us to keep the registration fee low. However, if the fee is a barrier to your organization’s participation, you can seek one of a limited number of scholarships. Please e-mail Northcountynonprofitforum@gmail.com if your organization needs a scholarship.

What parking is available? There is free parking at the hotel – both in front and behind the building – with additional parking at the municipal lot on Alisal Street.
