A Year in Review: Exploring the Impact of the Santa Barbara County Food Action Plan

When a small rural impact center with the mission to regenerate the economy, land and communities of the Cuyama Valley called Blue Sky Center was building its strategic plan, the first place it turned for guidance was to the Santa Barbara County Food Action Plan. Santa Barbara County Conservation Blueprint Prepares for Launch with Public Input Meetings in Santa Barbara and Santa Maria

The Santa Barbara Foundation LEAF Initiative joined the Land Trust for Santa Barbara County and the Cachuma Resource Conservation District, along with other community partners, to develop the Santa Barbara County Conservation Blueprint. The Blueprint will be the first comprehensive compilation of the natural resource and land assets in the county designed to inform conversations about the future of the region and transform how to approach conservation and development in the future. Read more...

 

LEAF Initiative Builds Momentum in 2016 with Achievement of Project Milestones and Small Grants

Launched in 2015, the LEAF Initiative seeks to strengthen community resilience by preserving and enhancing the landscapes and ecosystems that sustain nature, human health and well-being, and our economy. LEAF's two foundational projects, the Santa Barbara County Food Action Plan and the Santa Barbara County Conservation Blueprint, are complemented by its small grant program, which help build capacity for future project successes in 2017. LEAF Restoration, Conservation, and Best Practices Grants

The Santa Barbara Foundation recently awarded $50,000 to local organizations aligned with the efforts of the LEAF Initiative that seek to advance strategies to increase land conservation, promote ecosystem health, ensure agricultural viability, and improve the local food system. Launched in 2015, the primary goal of LEAF is to strengthen community resilience by preserving and enhancing the landscapes and systems that sustain nature, human health and our economy.
